Now I know what you're thinking....I am disgusting and pickles have no business on a grilled cheese sandwich, right? Maybe you're right, or maybe you just need to try this for yourself and be the judge. This all started when I was really little, and my Great Grandma would make me this crazy combination for lunch. I continued making it for myself as I grew up, and I will continue the tradition on for my children as well. Because if there is one thing we all should know, it's that the elderly are usually ALWAYS right!
Ingredients (serves 1)
2 slices of bread, your choice
2 slices of cheddar cheese, I used Kraft Singles
1 large whole pickle, I used Vlasic Kosher Dill
Butter
- Heat a pan over medium high heat.
- Cut pickles lengthwise into thin slices.
- Spread butter onto one side of each slice of bread, and place one slice (butter down) onto the pan.
- Place one slice of cheese onto the bread that's in the pan, and top with one layer of pickle slices. I usually just lay the strips down right next to each other, covering the whole slice of bread.
- Place remaining cheese slice on top of pickles, and top with the other slice of bread (butter up).
- Let the sandwich cook on one side, checking often.
- When it's as done as you would like, flip the whole thing over and cook for just a few minutes on the other side.
- Cut the sandwich however you would like, and serve by itself or with tomato soup!
